Town Up To Fifth

HARPENDEN SOAR TO FIFTH IN LEAGUE

Harpenden Town celebrated six league wins on the trot by smashing six goals past Arlesey Town Reserves on Tuesday night in a stunning 6-0 victory that sent them soaring up the table.

Town are now 5th in the Spartan South Midlands Division One with games in hand over all the teams above them. They also have the best goal difference in the league thanks to clean sheets and high scoring results.

The first goal against Arlesey  came in just two minutes when Mike Davies pushed forward on the right then from outside the box and from a tight angle blasted a shot into the top left corner.

On five minutes Kyle McLeish, who has come up from the development squad, came through the middle and his shot took a deflection for 2-0.

In the second half Sam Jenkins snuck in at the back for a free kick and shot the ball into the corner.

On sixty minutes Phil Smeaton picked up a cross from the left and blasted the ball home for 4-0.

The fifth on 82 minutes was a beauty from top scorer Harry Hunt who, with his back to the goal, launched himself into an overhead to get on the end of a header with a powerful shot past the keeper.

Finally on 90 minutes a high cross spun off the upright and Ben Warren clipped the rebound into the net.

On Saturday Harpenden beat Bedford 2-0 away from home. Sam James picked up the clearance from a free kick and his fierce volley beat the keeper.

Town sealed the victory when Harry Hunt placed the ball nicely inside the post for 2-0.

Chairman Roman Motyczak said:”Six nil is a great result but at the end of the day it is still 3 points in a long season and we have to keep our feet on the ground.

“It was great to see six different players including those from the development squad getting on the score sheet.”
