Harpenden Town scored a last minute victory on Saturday to remain in second behind leaders Biggleswade and preserve their 11 game winning streak in the league.
The Harps went behind to Hadley Wood and Wingate after 16 minutes when their No 11 Nicholas Kouroushi picked up a cross from the right and side footed the ball into the net.
Harpenden started slowly away from home in Finchley but gradually fought their way into the game.
In the second half they drew level when Jack Cartwright got on the end of a corner and headed back to David Keenleyside on the edge of the box. The midfielder calmly controlled the ball, picked his spot and side footed the ball home from distance for a classy goal.
Matt Sutton playing his first game for three months after a serious chest injury was substituted after 70 minutes but made a big impact on his return playing in front of the back four.
Harpenden kept pressing and got the result in the final minute of added time. In a goalmouth scramble Ben Warren passed back to Jack Baker, Town’s best player on the day, who smashed home for a narrow 2-1 victory.
Manager Danny Plumb said:”We showed great spirit to keep going until the last minute.
“We need to start the game better but I am happy with the three points.”
